Mirage

Mirage is a cinematic project in which the goal was to create a full CG, fun cinematic short. The short is about a furry little ball who lives in a empty and bleak world. Untill he encounters something strange and decides to eat it. What follows is the creation of a stunning world, untill his tummy starts to ache...

 

 

My role in the team was that of team lead and I needed to make sure all team members worked efficiently and that deadlines were made. I was also in charge of the overal feel of the cinematic, the art style, the cameras and the character animation.

 

Mirage was made in maya and rendered with mental ray in the span of 2 months.

Contribution

My contribution to the project laid mainly in team management and shot composition. It was my first priority to make every shot interesting to look at, set the right camera angles and to make sure that shot was made by the team as planned. Next to that I was responsible for the character animations. Below is a video which shows only the animations I did such as the character and some environment assets. It also shows the orientation of the camera in every shot although the fur and most of the environment is left out to show the animations more clearly.

The biggest challenge was making the character animation smooth and consistent across shots in the time given. Some shots worked better than others, which was a good learning experience.
